Fabrication of dense albite aggregates by hot pressing

Abstract Synthetic rocks are used in laboratories to measure the physical and chemical properties of Earth’s constituent minerals order understand interior. To phenomena middle upper crust, dense aggregates Na-rich plagioclase necessary. Therefore, we explored a method fabricating albite with low porosities, homogeneous microstructures, absence melt sample sizes larger than cubic centimetre using hot pressing by solid-state sintering. We conducted multiple experiments which varied particle sizes, agglomerations powder, forming, sintering temperature, pressure duration pressing. Two size fractions less two micrometres few hundred nanometres, were prepared pulverisation decantation natural powder. Because fine-grained powder seems agglomerate easily, technique dry disperse was also developed. Hot carried out at temperatures 1000‒1150 °C pressures 40‒120 MPa. The following found be important obtaining albite: (1) powders nanometres; (2) adequately dispersed; (3) preparation green bodies slip casting, makes efficient.
